An SAP environment is built around business processes that connect departments, systems, and people into one consistent flow of data. Among these processes, Order-to-Cash (O2C) is one of the most important because it connects sales activity directly to company revenue. O2C describes the complete business stream that starts when a customer places an order and ends when the company receives and clears the payment. In SAP, this stream is not handled by one single module or transaction. It is shared across Sales and Distribution (SD), Materials Management (MM), Financial Accounting (FI), and sometimes Production Planning (PP) and Warehouse Management (WM or Extended Warehouse Management, EWM). Learning O2C is often the first real step into SAP because it shows how business rules are converted into system rules and how information moves from one document to another without being typed again.
